Dewey and Meryl

Meryl Streep will star in the book-to-film adaptation of "Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World." Maggie Marton reviewed this book a few weeks ago and like magic, Meryl Streep was cast. This proves my point that books make great movies. Provided the person writing the film keeps the integrity of the book in the screenplay, no easy feat!

Variety reports the script is set to be written by Pamela Gray based on Myron’s story of the impact a stray cat has on the town of Spencer, Iowa. Temple Hill Entertainment’s Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey are lined up to produce the film with Jerry Kalajian and Pete Harris. For the film, Streep will handle the role of the author – who works at the local library and takes in a stray kitten that gets into the library through an after-hours book return. The cat becomes the library mascot.
